Magic Madagascar – Diademed Sifaka

In my view the Diademed Sifaka (Propithecus diaderna) is the most beautiful of all lemurs.  I had the privilege to follow a family for 2 hours in the Mantadia National Park, below you can see a proud mother with a 2 month old baby.

The Diademed Sifaka can be found in the eastern mid-eltitude montane rainforests up to 1,700m above see level, they move around in family units of up to 8, and mating occurs between January and March with birth around six months later.

The main diet is young leaves, fruit seeds, whole fruits and flowers depending on the seasonal abundance.
